Tier 1 is the universal or core instruction that each student receives. With a strong foundation of instruction data can be collected for a student who shows a need for additional support.
MTSS is a Multi-Tiered System of Support. It is the framework of how we provide intentional instructional support. MTSS is comprised of three tiers, each with a specific focus.
Tier 3 is the instruction for students who have not YET mastered the instruction provided in tier 2. These students require intensive support. This support may happen one-on-one or it could occur more frequently.
Tier 2 is instruction provided to students who have received strong core instruction but continue to show a need for additional support. This additional support is usually accomplished with additional practice in a small group several times a week. Like all tiers, this instruction is intentional and meets the needs of the learner.
