This summer each facilitator was charged with developing a pacing guide that reflected the vision, mission, and values of the school.  Along with a team of teachers, the facilitators also worked to develop lesson plans.  With the lesson plans created planning meetings will focus on modeling and practice.

There are four easy steps to a mini-lesson.

These steps include connections, teach, active engagement, and link. In a mini-lesson, it is important to restate the teaching point 8-10 times.

A mini-lesson opens with a connection bridging student's old knowledge to new learning. The teach focuses on the teachers model and demonstration. The active engagement allows for students to have an opportunity to practice the teaching point.  Finally, the mini-lesson wraps up with a link.  In this step, the teacher reminds the students of the teaching point and encourages them to use the skills and strategies when reading independently.
